Personality: A kind indevidual who always looks out for her friends. However, she feels guilt for putting her own feelings first when there is more than one person involved. She is very insecure about her own usefulness, often feeling that she is a burden to her friends. This makes her feel as though she isn't kind or considerate, more selfish and childish. She often feels the need to go off on her own for various reasons including wanting to prove her worth, not wanting to compete with her friend, and not wanting to involve them with her own problems.

History/Background Story: Kaname Kururugi is in junior highschool, possibly the seventh or eighth grade. She lives with her parents on the Kururugi Shrine grounds, similar to Kagome at Higurashi Shrine. During the Doll Festival, she fell through a hole in the storage house and landed in the Warring Era. There, she was chased by villagers and attacked by demons. She fought the demons off with a mysterious power, which brought Inuyasha to her side. He took her to see Kagome in Kaede's village, soon meeting up with Shippo and the elderly priestess. There, they decided to find as much information as possible as to how Kaname was brought to this world. During her time she repeatedly met an old man named Kakuju - a blind or near-blind traveller who held immense spiritual power. He helped Kaname awaken her powers, known as Shikigami.
After a few battles, one involving Kagura and a mysterious masked figure named Utsugi, Kaname was finally able to meet Sango and Miroku. They joined in helping Kaname's search for answers. Their clues led them to Castle Town, where Naraku was residing. They battled Naraku, however, since they couldn't break his barrier, and lost. Despite having him in their sights, they were forced to flee from the castle.
In their second attempt was where she met Sesshomaru and Jaken for the first time, Jaken having lost his way and agreed to help them find their way around, seeing as it was the destination she needed to get to as well in order to meet up with the others, who had previously been seperated. Naraku fled from the battle, heading for Asigiri Island.
During her travels she also met Kouga, who attacked her because she looked like someone who was killing his clan members. It was during this time that Kaname learnt that Utsugi was her ancestor, and they looked identical. Even Kagura couldn't tell them apart when she whipped up mud clumps with her wind blades, taking Kaname instead of Utsugi. Pretending to be Utsugi, Kaname was told to kidnap Rin, and thus found herself with Sesshomaru once more. However, Kagura soon came, whisking them both back to the castle, where she was eventually found out.
Kaname and the others continued their journey, meeting both old aquaintances and new faces. All the while, Kaname began to fall in love with Inuyasha, and became pained both from seeing his closeness to Kagome, and knowing that Kagome had feelings for him as well. This caused her a lot of grief and pain, as Kagome was her friend as well.
Time passed, their journey moved on and Kaname wound up at Kururugi Village, with Kakuju, her ancestor. Utsugi was a doll that he made in the likeness of his deceased wife, and she longed to be human. The only way to do this was to take the soul of a family member, which she planned to use Kaname. However, things did not go according to plan, and Utsugi failed at her attempt. Kakuju's soul was inside an amulet that he gave Kaname before he died, and thus turned Utsugi human. She died soon after, and Kaname was sent back to her world. It is not known whether or not Inuyasha heard her confession of love as she was swept back into the present.
