| The smell of human blood was thick in the air, like a suffocating miasma that blanketed the deciduous forest. There were no birds chirping their usual chaotic chorus in the leafy branches. The forest almost seemed ghostly, apart from someone who was passed out on the mossy ground. He was clearly a demon, as he had thin cat ears and a long but thin and muscular tail that ended in a large scythe made of bone. His persimmon coloured hair was sprawled out all over, half covering his young face and reached down to the small of his back. His body was drenched in blood, and his kimono was forever stained with the red liquid.
The wounds that he sustained were still lazily bleeding, his own blood sluggishly trickling on the ground. Various weapons such as knives and arrows were stuck in his body, and at first glance it looked as though he was dead. But the faint raising and descending of his chest and stomach indicated that he was breathing.
He was unconscious from exhaustion. Anyone who first glanced at this young man would see a demon who had been running for his life from local vilagers. But those that knew of this young man knew the truth. He hadn't been running from human attackers, the humans were attacking him in self defense. For this young demon that lay so peacefully on the floor, looking so defenseless and weak was a mass human killer.

A few miles away in an area that wasn't tainted with the smell of human blood the delightful chime of a young girl's laughter could be heard. Amung the lush greenery whisps of pink and orange could be seen. A young fox demoness of the age of eight was playing with a butterfly and other small creatures. Her skin was a delicately pale peach colour, which only seemed to allow her silky and vibrant amaranth-coloured hair to stand out even more. Her mauve-coloured eyes darted from side to side as she watched the butterfly flitter through the air and she haunched down on all fours. She wiggled her behind a little, allowing her bright orange and white tail to shake ever so slightly. Her large brown ears flicked a fly off, not wanting it to tickle her and loose her concentration.
It was obvious just from her appearance that she wasn't a local fox demon. Though how one from so far away could come to the eastern lands was a mystry unless she was travelling in a group and in truth she was. But the adults of her group were all doing their own thing, and she was left in the forest grove for safety. | |
